The Relationship Between Television And Obesity In Children And Adolescen

Television is the most popular form of entertainment all over the world. Every night, millions of viewers are treated to an episode of your favorite sporting events, or comedies. And the love affair with television shows no signs of abating in the short term. The screens are getting bigger, reality shows multiply, and television has quickly become the main source of information for the average American.

But television also has its downside. Has been associated with reading problems in children, attention deficit disorders, and delinquency. And now there is research to suggest that television may also cause weight gain in children and adolescents.

A study conducted at Stanford University several years ago showed that children who reduced the amount of time spent watching TV were thinner than those who did not limit his time. Given the fact that obesity among young people is increasing and the time spent watching television, then we see that we are before a public health problem. It has been shown that overweight children are at greater risk of heart disease and hypertension. Therefore, anything that promotes weight gain in children should be removed and television certainly falls into that category.

For most children, watching television involves more than watching cartoons. This includes video games and music videos. Cite just one example of the extent of this problem we can say that it is estimated that Americans use on average four hours of TV a day, a lot, compared to the average of other countries.

The dependence of children to television can be difficult to break, given the fact that television has become a very important part of their culture. The best thing would be declining gradually over time and be using that time in other activities and recreational physical nature.
